Belfast 2023

Rebecca returns with The Belfast Ensemble for a two-part concert featuring the critically acclaimed Abomination: A DUP Opera, and Conor Mitchell's Ten Plagues starring Marc Almond

17/10/23 Grand Opera House, Belfast, BT2 7HR

Act One: The orchestra of the Belfast Ensemble and a cast of operatic soloists, including the Canadian soprano Rebecca Caine take to the stage to perform in concert their awarding winning opera Abomination: A DUP Opera. Over 30 performers give the first full orchestral version of this internationally applauded original verbatim work.

Conducted by the composer and sung in full, this work has taken the UK and Ireland’s classical music scene by storm and recently played to packed houses at London’s Southbank Centre. It represents the best of internationally applauded NI work and has not yet been heard in Belfast’s own, the Grand Opera House!

Act Two: The international pop icon Marc Almond – for one performance only – joins composer Conor Mitchell (piano) on stage to perform the multi-award-winning song cycle Ten Plagues.

Belfast 2022

Rebecca returns to The Belfast Ensemble to create a new role in
Propaganda: A New Musical

08/10/22 - 05/11/22 Lyric Theatre Belfast, 55 Ridgeway St, Belfast BT9 5FB

It’s Berlin, 1949.

In the smouldering ruins of the city, and during the last days of the Blockade, a group of artists are doing everything they can to survive, with the dream of escaping to the West.

Pull up your stockings and take a step back in time with us to Berlin, 1949. With a Broadway influenced score, a live 14-piece orchestra and stellar cast, Propaganda: A New Musical is full of hilarious romps, showstopper tunes and spectacular moments.

Commissioned by the Lyric Theatre, and developed with the Lyric New Writing department, Propaganda: A New Musical by double Ivor Novello-nominated composer Conor Mitchell is an all-singing, all-dancing musical comedy which will rattle your cage this Autumn.

Colorado, USA 2022

Rebecca is appearing with Central City Opera as Margaret Johnson in The Light in the Piazza

02/07/22 - 28/07/22 Central City Opera House, Colorado, USA

Strong-willed Southern housewife Margaret Johnson and her charming daughter Clara vacation in Italy, summer of 1956. Margaret hopes the magic and memories of Florence will sweep her off her feet, but it’s Clara and earnest inamorato Fabrizio who fall in love at first sight. Torn from their guidebooks, mother and daughter must brave blossoming love, buried secrets and a startling cultural clash to uncover the hopeful new chapters they didn’t know they’d been searching for.

With a Tony-winning score by Adam Guettel and a Tony-nominated book by Craig Lucas, The Light in the Piazza premiered on Broadway in 2005.

Ireland 2022

Rebecca is appearing as Irish politician, Iris Robinson with the Belfast Ensemble in Abomination: a DUP opera

06/04/22 - 10/04/22 Lyric Theatre, Belfast

24/03/22 - 02/04/22 Abbey Theatre, Dublin

Revolutionary in form, Abomination centres on the scandalous live radio interview given by NI Politician Iris Robinson, when she referred to homosexuality as an ‘abomination’ – an act that has gone down in Irish queer history and instantly re-ignited the Northern Irish equality debate.

With their unique high-impact, multi-disciplinary style, the Belfast Ensemble wrap this story in a fresh web of incendiary historical comments by DUP members on the subject of gay rights, marriage equality, ‘poofs’ and ‘perverts’ to shockingly theatrical effect – challenging the power of words in the hands of the powerful.

Contemporary, political, comic, and emotionally complex, this riotous Northern Irish original redefined what a 21st-century opera could say, and why… and with just a touch of drag!

London 2018

Rebecca is returning to The Charing Cross Theatre in London and is delighted to be starring opposite Sheila Hancock and Dunkirk star, Bill Milner in the play - Harold and Maude

February 19th 2018 - March 31st 2018 Charing Cross Theatre.

Harold and Maude is an idiosyncratic fable told though the eyes of the most unlikely pairing: a compulsive, self-destructive young man who attends funerals for entertainment and a devil-may-care, septuagenarian bohemian.
Through Colin Higgin’s tale, we experience a way of seeing the world that looks directly into darkness, stresses our needs humour, the freedom to create and kindness while concluding that cynicism and despair are dead ends. Equal parts dark comedy and romantic innocence, Harold and Maude dissolves the line between darkness and light along with ones that separate people by class, gender and age.
Sheila Hancock will star as Maude, and Thom Southerland returns to direct.
